And every time I read them, I am reminded of the meaning of what I do, and try to do each day.
What inspires me about Elaine’s story is that her journey wasn’t easy. She is in her 60s, didn’t have computer skills, hadn’t created a website before, but still set out to create something she felt passionate about.
Even when the journey between her idea and its execution hit road bumps, she kept going, found ways around every obstacle, and didn’t stop until she had published her site.
And, of course, she hasn’t stopped now…because she has plenty more content to add to her site.
Here is Elaine Kennelly’s email to me:
Hello Mr. Usborne,
My name is Elaine Kennelly and I took your class “How to Write Your Own Money-Making Websites” in the Jan – March Class.
I loved the class and my goal was to have everything humming by April 30, 2012. I bought a website from SBI, SiteSell, listened to every class, read the entire book, and even paid SBI to write a blueprint for www.SomethingSisters.com. Had the logo designed. I was writing every day.
SomethingSisters.com is a website about friendship, faith, and fun for women 50+.
Well, the “Website Way”, did not go as expected. I got caught up in the software change in the templates for SBI. Then on April 2, I had a bad fall down 5 stairs and suffered a brain concussion. There went another two months.
But I kept writing. I have had to hire someone to help load my pages, and that is not going as fast as I would like, but it is happening!
And I kept writing. On July 25 about 20 pages had been entered, and we went live on Google.
I kept writing, and wrote a book called The Something Sisters 31 Day Devotional Book. which is being published by West Bow Press, a division of Thomas Nelson Publishers. Manuscript and all 10 pictures are at the company, and it is getting an Executive Review, as I type this.
My SomethingSister.com website header will be on the cover of the book, and Sitesell has verbally agreed, and I am waiting for written approval from them.
THANK YOU, Mr. Usborne, for great teaching and giving me hope that even a woman in her 60s, without computer skills can have a dream come true!
Although you are not in my target audience, I would very much like for you to take a look at my website. 10 more pages will be added within the next 2 weeks, and pictures are just beginning to be added. But, as you know, it is a process, built one page at a time. I have many articles, poems, affirmations and stories already written, just waiting their turn!
I would love for AWAI to look at the quality of my writing. If they find it meets their criterion, I would love for AWAI to link to SomethingSisters.com. and I would link to them. I could most appropriately tell my visitors how good their company is and how their partnering instructors present great classes. I hope to be an encouragement to someone else who has a BIG dream.
If you could tell me who to contact at AWAI and an email address, I would appreciate it very much.
It has been fun! No, not every minute, but if I had to do it all over again, I would.
Thank you, again, for your input into my life, and giving me the tools to make my dream come true. I have not started ads yet, nor am I making money yet, but I will! I am not doing this just for the sheer pleasure of writing!!
Congratulations to Elaine for creating such an inspiring website!
