Video interview in which I describe the origins and scope of my online copywriting program, Copywriting 2.0.

This interview was recorded in Austin, Texas, in February 2013.

It was fun to do simply because nobody had ever asked me to describe the origins of my online copywriting program. In fact, I hadn’t really thought it through until I was asked the question in this video.

It turns out that the program, Copywriting 2.0, had been building in my mind, and on my hard drive, for about a decade before I actually began to write it.

In other words, I was building the knowledge and compiling the teaching information way before I ever intended to write the program.

First, beginning in the late 90s, I was working for a lot of companies, helping them make the transition from offline writing to online writing. In the process, I did an awful lot of different kinds of online copywriting, including writing homepages, sales pages, content pages, subscription pages, emails, e-newsletters and a whole lot more.

The second step was when companies and organizations asked me to come in and train their own web teams and in-house writers. At that point I had to organize everything I had been doing and learning, and put it together in the form of presentations I could share.

Step three came when AWAI asked me to write a program that would work for any freelancer. I then had to take all those teaching presentations I had created for in-house employees and recreate everything in a program format, so it would work for a freelancer who is just starting out.

I like the fact that the program was about 10 years in the making, step by step. A better route, I think, than just beginning to write from a standing start, without much foundation to base things on.
